Held in Australia
Your record is stored in Australia (Sydney), encrypted in transit and at rest. It is never hosted or processed offshore.
Privacy & safety
These are the promises the live service will be built to keep. They are written as commitments rather than a policy because that is what they are — and because a funder, a minister or a survivor should be able to hold us to each one.
Your record is stored in Australia (Sydney), encrypted in transit and at rest. It is never hosted or processed offshore.
Access is limited to Violet Co solicitors bound by professional confidentiality, with named-user access and a full audit log of every action taken on your record.
The Register does not contact, notify or publish anything about the person you name. Ever.
You are a client of Violet Co Legal from the moment you record. Legal professional privilege protects what you tell us; it belongs to you.
Pause, add to, withdraw, or delete your record at any time. Choose whether we may tell you about connections, and how we may contact you.
No funder, partner or government body sees identifiable client information or influences what we do with a matter. Funding that asked for either would be declined.
| Information | Why we ask | Required? |
|---|---|---|
| Your name and contact details | To hold your record as a client and reach you the way you've chosen | Name yes; contact yes |
| Photo ID, checked once | So no one can register as you, or pose as a survivor to pollute the Register. The check is done once; the images are not kept on your record | Yes |
| The person who harmed you — name, other names, institution, place, period | This is what we compare across records to find a connection. Nothing else is used for matching | Optional, but a connection needs at least a name |
| What happened, in your words | For your solicitor, so you never have to retell it. Not used for matching | Optional |
| Whether you identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander; pronouns | To offer culturally safe, respectful support | Optional |
| Your choices — consent to be told of connections; contact preferences | So we act only as you have asked | Yes |
For as long as you are a client and want it held. If you withdraw, we delete your record, keeping only what the law requires a law firm to retain about a client relationship, for the period it requires. We will publish the exact retention rule before the service goes live.
A record is one person's account, held in confidence by a law firm. It is not a finding, and it is not published. A connection between records is reviewed by a solicitor before any survivor is told, and any step that involves the person named — a report, a claim — happens through the ordinary legal processes that give that person their rights. We will set this out in full, with our professional obligations, before the service goes live.
Complaints go first to Violet Co's Principal Solicitor. If you are not satisfied, the Office of the Legal Services Commissioner (NSW) is the independent regulator of solicitors. We will publish the full pathway before launch.
